Left brain vs. Right brain? Sounds like a bunch of nonsense! This camp will turn every one of its members into a fully-fledged mathemartist -- Every day in the camp will focus on a specific mathematical concept AND an art project each related to each othe

Program Description

This course will focus on some of the core mathematical concepts expected for middle schoolers/early high schoolers, namely geometry, algebra i, and quantitative reasoning. The goal is to reinforce these concepts in a nonacademic setting to prepare students for future studies. At the end of the course, students will form connections to the real world and explore math in creative ways.

Concepts that will be covered are as follows (format: concept -- art project):

  • Geometry review (areas/volumes of shapes) -- collective origami project
  • Quantitative reasoning -- solve/design unique logic puzzle
  • Algebra 1 review -- squares and logarithms! (like snakes and ladders - I'm so punny)
  • Design a board game surrounding a few mathematical concepts together (2 class periods)
  • Geometry review - sin/cos/tan --- geometric collage/mosaic (finding areas/angle measures of triangles!)

Location: UC Irvine, 92697. The exact location and drop-off details will be provided after registration.

Materials: Students will be required to bring a binder, and pencils. A backpack is also recommended to hold water and other personal belongings. All project and activity resources will be provided.
