Program Description

About
In this introductory course, students will learn how to build basic chords, melodies, and rhythms and connect those concepts to songs that they listen to (or if you’re a songwriter, music that you’ve written). Ever wanted to learn to read music? Curious about what that funky chord you found on the guitar is called? Wanna know how big that vocal jump is in that song you just heard? Modern Music Theory can help.

Students with prior musical experience will learn how to compose music by learning the techniques and theories used by some of the greatest music artists of our time.  Songwriters learn what makes the songs they love so special and then apply those concepts to their own music. You'll discover how the melodic, rhythmic, harmonic, and structural elements all work together to create a compelling song. After a few courses you'll be able to write your own song and then receive expert feedback from the instructor, a Juilliard-trained composer, and songwriter.

Logistics

Registration for this course just includes a $5 registration fee. After Registration, Chris will reach out to you and assess your musical goals and schedule a time for your first lesson. Payment is $80 per hour.  Instruction will be virtual and the details for joining the virtual room will be provided after registration.
