Program Description

Steve Jobs said, “Everyone in this country should learn how to program because it teaches you how to think.” 74% of parents said that they believe Computer Science is a subject that children should learn all year. We think every child should at least have some experience with programming. Many will use computers every day throughout their lives and future careers.

Young learners are introduced to core coding and computing concepts in an age appropriate and fun way. The curriculum has been designed to introduce students to programming with Scratch code blocks graphical programming software. The coding projects include animating characters, structuring and storing variables, editing and repurposing existing software, and designing user interfaces. There will be an option for more accelerated or experienced students to use Python to complete the final project.

Location: UC Irvine, 92697. The exact location and drop-off details will be provided after registration.

Materials: Students will be required to bring a laptop, binder, and pencils. A backpack is also recommended to hold water and other personal belongings. All project and activity resources will be provided.
